Hanging of the Greens Service - December 3, 2008

As we begin the Christian Year, we also celebrate the Holy Season known as Advent. It is a time when we prepare ourselves for the celebration of our Savior's birth. Advent has been enriched by Christian traditions, one of which is the observance of “The Hanging of the Greens,” an old English custom of decorating one's home with evergreens and other festive items.

At Palisades we have continued the tradition of “The Hanging of the Greens” by decorating God's house during a worship service. We encourage you to invite your family, neighbors and friends to join us on Wednesday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. for a wonderful evening of Christmas music, readings and fellowship as we decorate our sanctuary for the Christmas season. Prior to the service, dinner will be offered at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and Youth Hall. The nursery for children under 3 will be open for the dinner hour as well as during the service. We hope you will join us.

Our goal is to collect 100 jackets and 100 blankets to give to people in need! Please bring your new or used jackets and blankets to the table on the patio after worship on Sundays! Thanks for your help!

Military Outreach Ministries Toy Drive

Military Outreach Ministry works with military families to provide special needs and services while family members are deployed for long periods of time.

They would like to brighten Christmas for children of active military families by providing toys to children 14 and under. Donations that are requested: toys in general (please, no stuffed animals), infant toys, toddler toys, games, dvd's, cd's, and gift cards. These items will be picked up on December 4 and taken to five churches where parents can “shop” for that special toy for their child.

Food is also being accepted to help the military families with their Christmas dinners.
